| Nice but only lasted 7 months! | 2010-07-30 | 1 / 5 |

I loved it while it lasted, which wasn't long. After 7 months, it broke. It seems that the one-way valve failed. It would sputter but never put more than a trickle of hot water into the basket. Customer service then refused the warranty after I ASKED about fixing it myself. Very frustated and dissatisfied!
It was the DDC-1100bk. My very basic coffee maker before this never failed through many years. |
| Mmmm... Lukewarm Coffee | 2010-07-29 | 2 / 5 |
|
| Just bought this machine elsewhere. I should have at least checked the reviews first! Coffee brews lukewarm. I don't know if it is the machine itself or an inefficient thermal carafe. Either way, coffee should be hot, at least at first! Pouring water from the carafe into the machine is difficult if the brew-through lid is on. And maybe even if it isn't??? I have only used the machine twice and already plan to return it. Clock is hard to see. It wasn't a big selling point for me, but I definitely noticed that it should be backlit or something to increase visibility. Way too much money for such a lackluster product. |
| Cold Coffee | 2010-07-23 | 1 / 5 |

| I purchased this to replace my many years old KitchenAid maker. Coffee was lukewarm and almost cold by the time I poured it and added cream. I prepared the carafe by heating it with warm water first, still not warm enough to drink. I returned this item. |

My wife and I are equipping a second home, so I've begun the process of buying kitchen products again -- among them, this particular coffeemaker. After glancing at some of the reviews here, though, I wouldn't recognize this coffeemaker even though I've owned this exact model for about 2 years and have used it daily.
Provided routine maintenance -- a vinegar rinse once a quarter, use of paper filters for easy disposal and cleanliness, and replacement of the charcoal filter every 60 days --the machine works flawlessly. The carafe pours easily and keeps the temperature constant for a good 3 hours.
I've only found one "negative": because of its engineering, the coffeemaker's lid only opens to a just-past-vertical position, so if you're using the carafe to fill the machine with the water, it's a little tricky getting a full 10 cups of water in it because the carafe encounters the opened lid as you try to pour the final few ounces from the carafe. But I'm a klutzy lefthander, so if I can manage it, anyone can after a couple of tries.
There may well be equally fine coffeemakers for $70 or less, but I don't see much reason to look further than this Cuisinart. It does precisely what it is designed to do. |
| Do NOT buy this coffeemaker | 2010-07-07 | 1 / 5 |
|
| I do not suggest anyone buy this coffeemaker. The reason? Well, where do I begin?? It is difficult to tell how many cups of water you are pouring into the resevoir. The carafe is designed in such a way that it makes it difficult to pour water into the resevoir. The carafe opening is so small that coffee barely trickles into your cup. And, the worst part...the coffee does not brew hot. Even if you press the 1-4 cup option (which is supposed to produce extremely hot coffee), you still get barely lukewarm coffee. I am very disappointed with this product. |
